Graffiti Abatement to End?!

If it seems like there’s been an uptick in graffiti in Northeast Portland in the past couple of years, it’s not just perception graffiti has been on the rise. In fact reported incidents have dramatically increased over the past five years according to a 2017 report by the city Portland. So it comes as a surprise to us as neighborhood association that The Office of Neighborhood Involvement has proposed cutting the program entirely next fiscal year. The reason for the proposed cut is that most city bureaus are dealing with a 5% budget cut, but it seems unwise to cut this needed service altogether especially when it is such a small portion of ONI’s overall budget. Studies show the best way to reduce graffiti is to deal with quickly and systematically. Neighbors what are your thoughts on ending the graffiti abatement program in Portland? You can provide feedback in the comments or vote our Facebook poll Here You can also provide input to the city and ONI directly until March 12 when the budget goes to final vote.
