Have you played on, taken your dog or walked by the recreation field at Alameda Elementary (27th and Klickitat) recently? It’s in pretty sorry shape these days. With our help it could look like the beautiful and functional field pictured here–as soon as next summer! The Alameda School PTA is working to raise money this fall to improve the field to provide a safe, clean, fun field to play on. Many neighbors use this field after school and on weekend as a dog park. Learn more or support the project here http://alamedafield.org/ Portland Public Schools has approved the project which will cost an estimated $300,000 and you may wonder why PPS pay for the renovation, but with lots of deferred maintenance including water fixtures with lead that need to be replaced at many schools, the field is not a high priority. Neighbors and the Alameda PTA take action!
Congratulations to the Grant Constitution Team for winning an invitation to the National Competition in Washington DC in April! The Grant Team won the national tittle last year in the “We the People” competition, which simulates a congressional hearing with judges from across the country. The team needs to raise $65,000 to send the 25 students to Washington DC and is seeking the support of neighbors and businesses to help fund this once-in-a-lifetime experience. If you are interested in sponsoring these young scholars with a tax deductible contribution see their sponsorship page: https://grantboosters.schoolauction.net/con16/give.
